Jatayu Rock – Kerala’s Pride Tourism Project

Jatayu Rock (Jatayupara) is Kerala’s first public-private tourism project. It is believed that the legendary battle between Jatayu and Ravana took place atop Jatayupara in Chadayamangalam. According to local legends, the large depression on the rock was formed when Jatayu’s beak scraped against it, and a footprint on the rock is said to belong to Lord Rama. Inspired by these beliefs and legends, the massive Jatayu sculpture was created under the leadership of film director and sculptor Rajiv Anchal. The Jatayu Earth’s Center is often regarded as his dream project.

The sculpture at Jatayupara is the largest bird sculpture in the world, measuring 200 feet in length, 150 feet in width, and 75 feet in height. It depicts Jatayu after his battle with Ravana, having lost his left wing and fallen to the ground, while his right wing remains spread, with his beak and claws raised toward the sky.

The three-story sculpture features giant screens on its interior walls. These enormous screens present the story of Sita’s abduction in 6D format. From the third floor, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape through Jatayu’s eyes.

Adjacent to the Jatayu Earth’s Center is a well-equipped adventure park. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including rock climbing, commando nets, paintball, valley crossing on ropes, chimney climbing, shooting, vertical ladder challenges, wall climbing, one-hour trekking trails, archery, and a rope-made Burma bridge.

A cable car facility is available for those who wish to enjoy aerial views of the area. Helicopter rides are also offered for panoramic sightseeing and high-speed travel around Jatayupara. For visitors who wish to spend the night atop the hill while enjoying its natural beauty, camping tents are available as well.

Jatayupara is located just 500 meters from Chadayamangalam town on the Thiruvananthapuram–Kollam route. Tickets can be booked online. Separate tickets are available for the Jatayu Park, Adventure Park activities, trekking, and resort facilities.
