Vijaya Vasudevan – Where Literature and Teaching Go Hand in Hand!

Through the “Manicheppu Writers” column, Manicheppu introduces readers to the talented writers who have contributed stories, poems, essays, and other literary works to the magazine. Since the early days of Manicheppu, Vijaya Vasudevan has captivated young readers with her remarkable writings. In this edition, we present an overview of her literary journey and creative contributions.

Vijaya Vasudevan is a teacher at CPN U.P. School, Vattamkulam, in Malappuram district. She views teaching not merely as a profession but as a mission to help build a better society. Alongside her dedicated efforts in education, aimed at the holistic development of students, she is also actively involved in the fields of dance, literature, and counselling. By blending creativity with human values, she has earned a special place in the hearts of children and readers alike.



An accomplished writer, teacher, and counsellor, Vijaya has made significant contributions to children’s literature and continues to remain an active and inspiring presence in the literary world.

She has published a total of seven books, including four children’s literature titles.

In recognition of her contributions to literature, she has received several prestigious awards, including the Freedom Fifty Idasseri Memorial Award, the Pat Tagore Award, the S.K. Pottekkatt Memorial Award, and the Kerala Children’s Literature Academy Award for Story Writing.

She has also secured second place for two consecutive years in the NTU State-Level Character Analysis Competition and first place for three consecutive years at the district level.

A regular contributor to leading children’s magazines, including Manicheppu, Vijaya continues to enrich young readers with stories, essays, and poems that nurture imagination, critical thinking, and moral values.



Her simple, engaging, and heartfelt writing style has made her one of the most beloved writers among young readers. As part of her continued contribution to children’s literature, she has also served on the CBSE Grade 4 Malayalam Textbook Committee for the upcoming academic year, contributing her writings to the curriculum. Through works that teach both language and life values, Vijaya Vasudevan continues to make meaningful contributions to the fields of education and literature.

A native of Tanur in Malappuram district, Vijaya Vasudevan currently resides in Edappal. Her husband is Vasudevan, and their son is Sreeram.
