“Veyilchilla Thalirthappol Urundu koodiyathu”

(Foreword to the Short Story Collection – by Sivan Sudhalayam)

Suja, hailing from Nanmanda, Kozhikode, is a profound thinker among her contemporaries. She has a strong foundation nurtured and shaped by the cultural roots of places like Purameri, Pisharikavu, and Koyilandy.

Her captivating short pieces and little stories for children often reach us through periodicals and social media. Hers is a life not meant to be confined to fleeting moments. Suja possesses a special talent for weaving virtue into her actions. Here are thirty-three stories that are sure to capture widespread attention—a writing prowess completely untouched by arrogance.

Let’s look at a few…

The story Parichithanaya Aparichithan (The Familiar Stranger) portrays a mother-father relationship-an ocean of emotions forged in embers. We can hold this story close to our hearts as a true reflection of parental bonds. In the story Nattumanga (Country Mango), Devootty is the companion to the protagonist, shaping his mind along the way.

Even when cruel thoughts eventually culminate in murder, the reader is left restless in the swinging cradle of lamentation. The story Nuna (Lie) belongs to a prisoner of a love kingdom that has broken all boundaries. Yathra (Journey)… is a harmonious expression that crosses the river without any complications. When the sea speaks of her oceanic desires, the sand achieves a symbolic balance.

Mathil (Wall) hangs the alien walls of the present era into the folds of time, separating them through conflict. Her robust writing style remains uncorrupted, polished by the grace of her words. Kannada (Spectacles) represents inner strength-it is a piece of writing solidified by excellent vision and profound insight. It goes without saying.

The narrative Niramillatha Moham (Colorless Desire) shakes up the fatal destinies of those who desire to travel but end up meeting death. The short story Ottavakkil Utharam (Answer in a Single Word) speaks of a silence carefully stitched into the mind. I read Vishappu (Hunger) several times-a story that entangles the established patterns of life onto a single rope overwhelmed by debt… Suja knows that a shadow is, sometimes, a form of consciousness.

The creation Avasana Phalam (The Final Result) is as beautiful as a glass palace sprouted from desire. The author is certain that life is never a burden, and survival is an act of loving openly.

In the story titled Pennukanal (Bride Viewing), we are presented with a home free of all entanglements, resembling heaven. Ammayude Kodathi (Mother’s Court) serves as a pleasant canopy-a creation with many dimensions.

Suja knows that one cannot touch the peak of a hill by sitting cross-legged only in favorable conditions. Learning her karma by walking softly and steadily, places like Lokanarkavu and Thali weave the divine era into her writing through magical chants.

These thirty-three stories represent the heights of an brilliance that knows its own worth. I am confident that this handful of stories from Bodhi’s beloved writer will reach great heights, garnering numerous readers and recognitions. May the author achieve great fame.
